What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are chemicals found in cannabis. The most notable cannabinoid is the phytocannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (Delta9-THC or Delta8-THC), the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis. Cannabidiol (CBD) is another major constituent of the plant. There are at least 113 different cannabinoids isolated from cannabis, exhibiting varied effects. Synthetic cannabinoids are manufactured artificially. They encompass a variety of distinct chemical classes: the classical cannabinoids structurally related to THC, the nonclassical cannabinoids (cannabimimetics) including the aminoalkylindoles, 1,5-diarylpyrazoles, quinolines, and arylsulfonamides as well as eicosanoids related to endocannabinoids.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD Hemp Distillate Full Spectrum) has been recently covered in the media, and you may have even seen it as an add-in booster to your post-workout smoothie or morning coffee. What exactly is CBD? Why is it suddenly so popular?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

CBD  Hemp Distillate (Cannabidiol) from Hemp

CBD is a highly refined cannabis extract often derived from high CBD hemp flower and hemp biomass. Our Distillate typically is at least 80% CBD  to 99% Pure with the balance including minor cannabinoids, terpenes and other plants oils and extracts. Distillate may be further refined to produce CBD isolate – purified cannabidiol crystals comprising up to 99.5% or more of CBD. Distillate is also ideal to use in manufacturing of CBD products such as oil tinctures, capsules and vape products.

Full spectrum CBD Extract

When you first distill crude oil, the first form of distillation still contains a multitude of other cannabinoids and terpenes; this stage is often considered a full spectrum product. Some clients prefer a non compliant full spectrum distillate in order to allow a higher terpene structre, in which some minds adds another medical benefit to distillate products. CBD  Hemp Distillate typically contains significant quantities of other cannabinoids including CBG, CBC and THC.

Note that if THC levels exceed 0.3% then CBD can be legally problematic as it falls outside the scope of a “hemp” product under US law. Similar situations apply in other countries. Each state is ran differently, but federally you are not allowed to sell any distillate products that contain larger that 0.3% THC to any end comsumer. If your distillate, has higher that the compliant amount of 0.3% THC; technically by federal law that is illegal. Make sure to always receiving legit COA’s from your manufacturers. Also, if you are based in a state where cannabis is considered illegal, receiving distillate that has a larger then the compliant level is considered illegeal.

For this reason there is growing interest in THC Free CBD Hemp Distillate

THC Free CBD Hemp Distillate (Zero THC Hemp Extract)

THC Free CBD Hemp Distillate is an exciting new product where all the THC has been removed from the distillate (by selective distillation or chromatography). This is time consuming process requiring specialist equipment so THC Free distillate costs more than normal CBD Hemp distillate. Most people in the industry call “THC Free” Broad Spectrum. The reason is when all of the cannabinoids are present the distillate is called “Full Spectrum”. Some scientist and manufacturers believe that once the THC is remediation through a process of flash chromatography, its loses some of the medical properties by remediating the compounds of THC and CBD since they are similar. Currently, there are not clinical studies that show either side of the process.

CBD Hemp Distillate does not appear to have any psychotropic (“high”) effects such as those caused by ∆9-THC in marijuana, but may have anti-anxiety and anti-psychotic effects. As the legal landscape and understanding about the differences in medical cannabinoids unfolds, experts are working to distinguish “medical marijuana” (with varying degrees of psychotropic effects and deficits in executive function) – from “medical CBD therapies” which would commonly present as having a reduced or non-psychoactive side-effect profile.

Various strains of “medical marijuana” are found to have a significant variation in the ratios of CBD-to-THC, and are known to contain other non-psychotropic cannabinoids. Any psychoactive marijuana, regardless of its CBD content, is derived from the flower (or bud) of the genus Cannabis. As defined by U.S. federal law, non-psychoactive hemp (also commonly-termed industrial hemp), regardless of its CBD content, is any part of the cannabis plant, whether growing or not, containing a ∆-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of no more than 0.3% on a dry-weight basis. Certain standards are required for legal growing, cultivating, and producing the hemp plant. The Colorado Industrial Hemp Program registers growers of industrial hemp and samples crops to verify that the dry-weight THC concentration does not exceed 0.3%.
